The APS publishes a recommended schedule of fees as a guide for psychologists providing private psychology services. The 2019-2020 Recommended Schedule of fees has set the standard 45 to 60 minute consultation fee at $260. The fee at which a service is set is at the discretion of the individual psychologist.
Fees at Breakthrough Psychology Practice depend on the components on the type of service and the Clinician (Registered or Clinical Psychologist) that each client requires. Below is a fee guide at Breakthrough Psychology Practice. These fees are subject to change at the discretion of the Psychologist.
Please note that full Payment is due on the day of the appointment either by Credit Card (Visa and Mastercard). Medicare rebates are only provided after the completion of payment. Breakthrough Psychology Practice utilises electronic payment system, Halaxy Software for ease of processing payments and receiving Medicare rebates.

GST is not payable on psychological services if the service is the appropriate treatment of the client/patient. When a third party, however contracts for the service, for example a child care centre, school, community health group, private organisation, etc GST must be charged. GST is also charged for Clinical supervision and Psychometric Testing.
Breakthrough Psychology Practice has a 48 hour cancellation policy. If a cancellation is made within 48 hours you will be charged $100 before your next appointment, unless other arrangements have been agreed to with the practice Principal.
Medicare benefits are available for a range of specified psychological services as long as you have a Mental Health Care Plan from your GP or referral from a Paediatrician or Psychiatrist.
Private Health Fund
Private health insurers may also rebate part of the cost of psychological consultations. Contact your health insurance provider for further information.
How many sessions do I get?
Your MHTP gives you 20 sessions. When you’ve used them you can go back to the doctor and get another 4 sessions. Then that’s it for the year.
You can still have sessions with your psychologist, but Medicare won’t give you any money back for them.
On January 1 each year you’re eligible for 6 sessions again. You don’t need a new MHTP each year.
What makes me eligible for a MHTP?
Most MHTPs are for depression or anxiety. Here’s the full list of conditions that are eligible:
